2 people killed in rollover crash in Lawrence

State police are investigating the cause of a rollover crash on I-495 in Lawrence that fatally injured two passengers early Saturday morning.

Police said officers responded to the scene around 2:17 a.m. at the I-495 southbound off ramp to Marston Street.The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver entered the ramp at a high speed and failed to negotiate the curve, causing the car to drive off the embankment and roll over, according to police. The driver, identified as a 22-year-old man from Lawrence, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police identified the two passengers fatally injured in the crash as 23-year-old Alexander Castro, of Salem, and Wilbert Munoz, 26, of Lawrence. Police said Munoz was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Castro was transported to Lawrence General Hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time, according to police.
