The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people from a flooding sailboat in Maine on Tuesday, authorities say.

A person aboard the sailboat Ingomar radioed the Coast Guard for help just before 10 a.m. Their boat was six miles southeast of Owl’s Head Lighthouse in West Penobscot Bay.

The crew was “in distress and taking on water,” the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard sent two boats to rescue them. When rescue crews arrived, the Coast Guard said the team used dewatering equipment to control the flooding. Using a pump, the team kept the sailboat afloat until it arrived at Journey’s End Marina in Rockland, where it was immediately taken out of the water.

“I couldn’t have been more impressed with the response efforts all around,” said Chief Warrant Officer Hans Schultz, the station’s commanding officer. “From quickly arriving on scene and dewatering the vessel to working with a local marina to expedite the sailboat’s haul out, it’s clear this crew is trained and ready for when their community needs them.”
