Roxbury woman celebrates 103rd birthday with police commissioner
Roxbury resident Irene Randolph celebrated her 103rd birthday on Friday with some special guests from the Boston Police Department.
Police commissioner William Evans stopped by the party to wish Randolph a happy birthday. He said when he heard what year Randolph was celebrating, he had to meet her.
“People like her have made Boston the special place it is today and it was an honor and privilege for me to meet her and thank her for being a great citizen,” Evans said in a statement.

Since Randolph has witnessed 17 presidents in the White House during her lifetime, police said they asked the centenarian to name her favorite commander-in-chief. She chose President Barack Obama.
“Never thought I see the day and when I did it made me real happy,” she said. “We’ve come a long way.”
