Police seize $400,000 in cash from an SUV outside a Cape Cod Friendly’s
No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Barnstable police discovered $400,000 in cash in an SUV parked outside of a Friendly’s restaurant on Monday, according to a department Facebook post.
Detectives from the Drug Enforcement Agency, Barnstable police, and state police were conducting surveillance activities near Festival Plaza on Route 132 when they observed a man, carrying a small bag, exit the SUV around 4 p.m. and enter the restaurant.
The SUV, occupied by two other men, then slowly circled the plaza parking lot, before parking in a space near the Friendly’s, according to police.
Upon questioning the man in the Friendly’s and the men in the SUV, and receiving conflicting responses about their purpose in the area, detectives found and seized the $400,000 in cash located in two backpacks in the SUV, according to police. Police said they also discovered three large empty suitcases in the vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges are pending at this time, police said.
