About 100 protesters gather outside Trump fundraiser in Boston

Protesters gathered outside the Langham Hotel Wednesday hours before a noon fundraiser for Donald Trump was set to begin.

Congressman Michael Capuano and Boston City Councilor Ayanna Pressley spoke at the event, which was organized by SEIU Local 888 and combined with a “Black-Out Trump Rally” coordinated by Boston residents.

“How dare he say that he wants to make America great again when he wants to vilify the very people who built it?” Pressley said.

Chants of “Stand up, shut it down, Boston is a workers town,” mixed with shouts of “Keep your wall, Keep your hate, the USA is already great!”

Capuano said he wasn’t there to call anyone names.

“This is our country and there is no way we’re going to let him take it in the direction he wants to go,” he said.

Over the hours, as the number of protesters and onlookers grew, some Trump supporters arrived to back the candidate.

A seat at the noon luncheon cost $2,700, which is the maximum amount a person can legally donate to a federal candidate’s campaign. Both Senator Scott Brown and car dealership mogul Ernie Boch Jr. were spotted heading into the event.
