Firefighters rescue Lawrence kayaker who capsized in Merrimack River
After capsizing in the Merrimack River, a Lawrence kayaker was resuscitated Wednesday by firefighters who pulled him from the water in Andover, according to officials.
Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said the 50-year-old man was rescued in the river by Lawrence firefighters around 12:30 p.m. after he had fallen out of his kayak.
The firefighters, who had been conducting training in the water at the time, then administered CPR to the man, who has not yet been publicly identified by officials. According to multiple reports, the man did not have a pulse when he was pulled from the river.

The man was then taken to Lawrence General Hospital, Keefe said. The Boston Globe reported that it was there where medical staff were able to restore his pulse and put him on a ventilator. He was later transferred to Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston.
According to the Globe, firefighters first noticed the kayaker going in the opposite direction while they were training. But later, after finishing their exercise, they saw the overturned kayak and began searching for him.
