Police investigating vandalism of Hampton Beach sand sculptures

The destruction of four sand sculptures that were part of the 16th Annual Hampton Beach Master Sand Sculpting Classic is under investigation by New Hampshire police, The Portsmouth Herald reports.

David Gooch, head of security for the sculptures, told the Herald the act of vandalism must have taken place when he was not on site, between 1:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday. He said this year’s defacement appeared to be more malicious than previous years.

“This particular person was intent on destroying this event,” he told the Herald.

Sculptors began work on pieces of art on June 16, which were judged on June 18. According to the Herald, the “She Loves Me” sculpture by Justin Gordon, of Groveland, Massachusetts, which won the People’s Choice award, was among the damaged pieces.
