City officials and residents of Cambridge are calling for more public input on a planned redesign of Harvard Square’s open spaces, The Boston Globe reports.

“We’ve got to challenge ourselves to do better on the outreach and engagement,” Cambridge Councilor Nadeem Mazen said during a Thursday meeting at City Hall.

The project, which has been in the works for almost three years, includes the redesign and renovation of the iconic Out of Town News Kiosk. The goal of the planned redesign is to make the public spaces accommodating for community gatherings.

City officials called for more community participation and urged members of the public present at the meeting to submit ideas and proposals to City Hall.
