Matthew Andrewes feels guilty for skipping out on his train fare so often as a young man.

So the 31 year-old is making good for it.

On June 9, he typed up an apology letter to the MBTA and placed it into an envelope with $300, reports The Boston Globe. He hand delivered the envelope to the ticket window at North Station.

“Several years ago, particularly when I was in my teens and early twenties, I used to try and avoid paying the train fare whenever I could,” Andrewes wrote in the letter. “I am so sorry. Please accept this money as compensation.”

This type of thing has happened before, said Joe Pesaturo, MBTA spokesman, but not to this extent.

“The most ever received was $2.65,” Pesaturo told the Globe.
