Authorities identify teen swimmer who drowned at Lynn Woods reservoir
Authorities have identified the 13-year-old boy who drowned Sunday while swimming with friends at a Lynn Woods Reservation reservoir.
The victim was identified as Lynn resident Jose Angel Capellan Rodriguez, Essex County District Attorney’s office spokeswoman Carrie Kimball-Monahan said Monday.
According to officials, Rodriguez had been in the water Sunday afternoon with a group of friends at Walden Pond in Saugus, one of three reservoirs in Lynn Woods, when he began having difficulty swimming.
Local police and emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 2 p.m. and tried to resuscitate Rodriguez after they found him in the water. He was then taken to Lynn Union Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
While swimming Walden Pond is prohibited, The Boston Globe reported Sunday that it is a popular swimming destination nonetheless. The reservoir is not to be confused with the more-famous Walden Pond in Concord.
Lynn and state police investigated the drowning and do not suspect foul play, according to Kimball-Monahan.
