A 31-year-old man was killed Saturday in Mattapan, according to Boston police spokeswoman Rachel McGuire, in one of three separate reported shootings in the city late last night.

Police say they responded to a call reporting the shooting shortly after 11 p.m. on Astoria Street. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim was found suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, according to police.

McGuire told The Boston Globe that the incident appeared to be a “barbecue gone awry” and that police spoke to “dozens” of witnesses at the scene. Police say they are “actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding” the shooting.

As the Globe reported, police say three other people were also injured in separate, non-random shootings late Saturday night in Dorchester.

One man received non-life-threatening injuries from a shooting at the intersection of Norfolk and Elizabeth streets, while two people were hospitalized with injuries following a 12:30 a.m. shooting on Ellington and Fowler streets.
