Police investigating anti-Muslim graffiti discovered on the T

The MBTA Transit Police are investigating after a passenger said she found anti-Muslim graffiti on the Red Line.

A passenger took this photo of the graffiti Thursday afternoon. It shows the phrase, “Muslim Trash go home!” written in black marker on the window ledge.

The MBTA reached out to the rider over Twitter, writing, asking her to “please forward us a car number so we and [Transit Police] can have this taken care of asap.”

She sent them the number of the car on Thursday night, telling them it was pulling into Alewife.

“The individual subway car was immediately removed from service,” MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told Boston.com. “After the evidence was documented by Transit Police, the car was cleaned and returned to service.”

The graffiti comes in the wake of the Orlando shooting in which the gunman claimed allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State.
