The widow of a victim killed during last month’s violent stabbing rampage in Taunton is petitioning Facebook to change its memorialization policy after she was locked out of her deceased husband’s account.

Rosemary Heath wrote on the petition page that someone contacted the social media company without her permission and had the page that belonged to her husband, George, memorialized, which means no one can log into the account except for the named legacy contact. If no one is named as the legacy contact, the account becomes locked once it’s memorialized.

“These changes occurred because someone else was allowed to request the change and lock down the account,” she said. “My being his legal next of kin, should override all of that. Instead, I just get an email stating that I’m not allowed to do that and that they cannot reverse it once it’s done. I don’t believe that for one minute! I want the access to the page. This policy as it stands right now is wrong.”

Heath said neither she nor her husband knew that a legacy contact could be made.

“I had every intention to keep his memory alive through his Facebook page, sharing memories and pictures with his friends and family,” she wrote.

George Heath was fatally stabbed on May 10 when Arthur DaRosa, 28, of Taunton, went on a violent spree, stabbing two women inside a home and two others, including Heath, in the Bertucci’s. Heath, a design instructor at New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School, died trying to defend pregnant 26-year-old Sheenah Savoy, who was waitressing at the Bertucci’s restaurant when DaRosa attacked her.
