A dog bite report by the town’s animal control officer, obtained by the paper through a public records request, lists the pit bull’s owner as Gary Merchant but has his daughter’s name handwritten in the margin.
Animal Control officer Charles Gould told the Sentinel the dog had belonged to Merchant’s daughter in Vermont before it was returned to him two months ago. The bite report notes that the pit bull attacked the daughter’s other dog on several occasions.
Hunter Bragg was killed by the dog on June 5 while visiting Merchant’s home with his father.
