Police: State trooper hit by drunk motorcyclist at Revere Beach
A Massachusetts state trooper was hospitalized Saturday after he was struck by motorcyclist, who police say was drunk, at Revere Beach.
The trooper had exited his cruiser on Revere Beach Boulevard near the bandstand around 5:30 p.m. after stopping a car for a violation. According to state police, it was then that he attempted to stop a motorcyclist that he and other troopers had observed speeding and changing lanes recklessly.
Instead of stopping, police say 26-year-old Danilo Diroche rode directly into the trooper with his 2005 Yamaha motorcycle.
After hitting the trooper, Diroche struck another car and then tried to run away on foot, but was chased down and arrested by other troopers at the scene, according to police.
The trooper, whose name has not been released by police, was driven by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital with multiple cuts and bruises, and a possible concussion. He remained there Saturday to undergo testing.
Diroche, a Lynn resident, was hospitalized at Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett and then later transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with “potentially serious injuries” he sustained from striking the trooper, police said.
According to police, Diroche was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
When he is released from the hospital, police say Diroche will be booked on charges of operating under the influence, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury, operating to endanger, failure to stop for police, speeding, and unsafe passing.
