The number of anti-Semitic incidents in New England are on the rise, reports The Boston Globe.

Last year, 61 incidents were reported. This year, there have already been 56 incidents, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

“Clearly, people are acting out on some long-held stereotypes and hatred toward Jews, and it’s designed to send a message of intimidation,” Robert Trestan, director of the New England Regional Office of the ADL, told the Globe. “We’re increasingly living in an environment where incivility is becoming common and accepted practice.”

Massachusetts had the most incidents in New England this year, with 47 incidents reported — 23 of them at schools.
