State trooper orders turtle off the highway

A state trooper helps a turtle cross the highway.

A state trooper came across an unusual pedestrian on Route 1 in Lynnfield on Monday.

A turtle was attempting to cross the busy road.

Trooper James Maloney jumped from his vehicle and “ordered the turtle off the roadway,” according to police.

But the turtle was slow to respond. Perhaps he was shell shocked?

Finally, the turtle moved when Maloney’s “command presence kicked in,” said police.

The turtle was relocated to an aquatic environment in Topsfield.
