MBTA conductor on leave after trolley door closes on girl’s arm
An MBTA conductor is on leave after an 8-year-old girl was injured when her hand became stuck in the door of a Green Line trolley, officials said.
The girl, Faith Felt, and her mother were getting off the trolley at Harvard Avenue on the Green Line’s B branch on Monday night, MBTA said. Felt had stepped down and was helping her mother off when the trolley door closed on her hand.
“She was trying to reach over to me and the doors slammed on her arm,” her mother, Mitzia Felt, told WHDH.
The 8-year-old was taken to the hospital with a cut and a swollen right wrist.
The conductor is currently out of service as supervisors investigate the situation, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.
In a copy of the incident report provided by the MBTA, the trolley operator said the girl had just stepped off the trolley and reached back as the door closed.
“I reacted and I opened the door back open,” the operator wrote, according to the report. “I waited for the family and I asked if everything is OK. The mother said yes, she is fine, you are all set.”
The girl’s mother told WCVB that the conductor’s behavior didn’t help the situation.
“I go in front of the conductor and I’m like, ‘Really?'” she said. “[The conductor said,] ‘Oh I’m sorry. I’m sorry.'”
