Boston police say 2 officers at fatal house party are not suspects
Two off-duty Boston Police officers attended a house party at a multi-million dollar Lynnfield mansion at which a man was shot and killed over the weekend, Boston Police said in a statement.
“The officers attended the party in a social capacity and are cooperating fully with the investigation by MA State Police and Lynnfield Police,” police said.
Keivan Heath, 33, of Randolph, was found injured around 3 a.m. Sunday as police responded to reports of a shooting at a party at 8 Needham Road in Lynnfield. Heath was taken to Lynn Union Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Essex District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan said.
On Wednesday, Boston Police commissioner William Evans said the two off-duty female officers at the house party were not suspects in the case.
“I’m sure these two young ladies didn’t go there thinking there was going to be a shooting,” Evans told reporters on Wednesday.
Boston Police Lt. Michael McCarthy wrote in an email to The Boston Globe that the officers remain on active duty.
Kimball-Monahan declined to comment on who may have attended the house party, citing the ongoing investigation. No arrests have yet been made in the case.
Alex Styller, the owner of the $3.35 million home, said he had rented the 5,000-square-foot house out to a group for what he thought was a college reunion, The Boston Globe reports.
“I still believe that this party got out of hand and that probably some uninvited people came in,” Styller said.
