A group of veterans in Massachusetts didn’t let bad weather or a canceled parade keep them from marching

In Pepperell, men in uniform took to the route on Monday.

The town of Pepperell, Massachusetts, had to call off its Memorial Day parade Monday due to potential heavy rain and lightning. But a few uniformed men decided to march anyway.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pepperell Police Department posted a message to their Facebook page announcing that the annual Memorial Day parade would be canceled.

“Although we weren’t exactly prepared for it, we are very proud of our Pepperell veterans who decided to march the parade route this morning even though the parade was cancelled,” the post read.

Responses to the station’s Facebook post were overwhelmingly positive.

“Sending a huge thank you to these veterans for what they have done for their country and all of us,” wrote one Facebook user. “They didn’t serve their country in ideal weather conditions. And I applaud them for celebrating the remembrance of all those they served with in non-ideal weather conditions.”
