State trooper injured in shootout released from hospital
The Massachusetts state trooper who was wounded in a shootout with Jorge Zambrano, who police say fatally shot an Auburn police officer on Sunday, has been released from the hospital.
The trooper, who has not been identified, was released Thursday from UMass Hospital-Lakeside where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder, state police said in a statement Friday. The trooper is continuing to recuperate and will enter a rehabilitation program in the future, according to police.
Zambrano, 35, allegedly shot officer Ronald Tarentino, 42, in the early hours of May 22 during a traffic stop in Auburn. He was killed later that day in a clash with police in an Oxford apartment.
Funeral services for Tarentino were held Friday.
