8 puppies were crammed into crates and abandoned in New Hampshire
Two litters of puppies were packed into two crates and abandoned in the middle of the night in Laconia, New Hampshire, this week.
MaryLee Gorham, executive director of the New Hampshire Humane Society, said Thursday the pups were left at the end of the shelters driveway around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Gorham said a newspaper deliverywoman discovered the crates around 4:30 a.m. the next morning. The woman told the shelter she smelled the puppies before she found them, covered in feces, urine, and biting black flies.
“It was pretty bad,” Gorham said of the state the pups were in.
The puppies’ paw pads are scalded and raw from living in squalid conditions, and the white fur on some of the pups has been stained yellow from urine, despite being bathed multiple times at the shelter, she said.

Four of the dogs were crammed into a wooden crate that was nailed shut, only big enough for one, and the others were in an old, wire crate meant to house one pup.
Gorham said these puppies bring the total number of litters dumped at the shelter up to three and the Laconia Police Department is actively investigating the incidents.

The puppies were crammed into these crates.
She said people shouldn’t be embarrassed or afraid of calling the shelter if they realize they can’t take care of their animals.
“All you have to do is call us,” Gorham said. “We would never have turned them away.”
She also encouraged people to step up and help neighbors who may be struggling to take care of their pets, “so that other animals don’t have to live in the squalor that these dogs have.”
The pups are continuing to receive care at the shelter but should be ready for adoption in about two weeks, she said. Donations to help care for the puppies can be made here.
