No charges for late-night Government Center photographer, T police say
Government Center station reopened after a two-year closure in late March. But Boston got a sneak peek of what the redesigned station would look like a couple weeks early, courtesy of an adventurous Reddit user.
“I managed to sneak into the Government Center construction site without being noticed by the construction workers tonight,” read the Reddit post’s title on March 9. “Sorry for the blurriness, I was slightly drunk,’’ the user added in a comment on the post. (The photos have apparently since been deleted.)
The sneaky snaps were met with scorn from the T.
“MBTA Transit Police will be reaching out to this individual to learn more about his/her recent visit,’’ spokesman Joe Pesaturo said at the time. “The station is an active construction site, and there is no reason anyone should be entering the enclosed area which is circled by a security fence, including chained gates.’’
Turns out, the photographer got away with it.
On Wednesday, transit police said the case was closed. Along with a video showing the photographer’s 3:30 a.m. stroll in the yet-to-be-completed station, the department said in a blog post that it would not seek charges.
“An investigation suggests the male did not stay for an extended period of time, did not pose a threat to the construction crew within and was more of a curiosity seeker. Based on the totality of the circumstances no criminal charges will be sought,” the blog post reads.
