Teen arrested in high school fight that sent Townsend student to hospital

A teen was arrested Tuesday evening in connection to a fight at a Townsend high school that sent one student to the hospital for treatment.

A 16-year-old male, of Ashby, turned himself into police Tuesday night. Police said he was charged with assault and battery with intent to do serious bodily injury and is expected to be arraigned in juvenile court Wednesday.

On Tuesday morning, another 16-year-old male student entered an administrative office at North Middlesex Regional High School around 8:45 a.m. and said that he and the suspect had been in an altercation, according to police. The student, who was conscious and alert when he entered the office, soon began slipping in and out of consciousness, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital and “sustained serious head injuries,” according to police.

Police are withholding the names of both students at this time, but did say the two male students appeared to be friends who got into a disagreement that ended with the suspect striking the other student multiple times.
