Missing Boston College senior found safe

A Boston College senior, who was reported missing by her family Monday morning after she didn’t show up for her graduation, has been found safe, according to Newton police.

Massachusetts State Police and Newton police said 22-year-old Dana Morrissey was found in the woods near Temple Mishkan Tefila by a state police K-9 unit around 5 p.m. Police said she “appears to be medically fine,” but would be evaluated.

According to police, Morrissey was picked up by an Uber driver in front of a Dunkin’ Donuts at 53 Comm. Ave. around 7:30 a.m. Monday and dropped off 10 minutes later in front of Bloomingdale’s on Route 9, near Hammond Pond. The phone she’d been using was not turned on, police said.

Police from various departments, and state police Air Wing and K-9 units were searching the wooded area near the pond around 4 p.m. The Newton Fire Department also launched a boat on the pond, according to police.

At a press conference held shortly before Morrissey was found, her mother pleaded for her daughter to reach out.

“Dana, if you can hear me, please contact somebody,” Meg Morrissey said. “Your brothers and sisters are looking for you, your friends are looking for you, and we’d love to have you home for your birthday tomorrow.”
