Reports of live ammo force firefighters out of blaze

A Raymond Street apartment building was destroyed in an early morning blaze Wednesday.
A two-alarm fire decimated a two-family home in Allston, displacing four and causing more than half a million dollars in damages, according to the Boston Fire Department.
An investigation of the scene determined that the blaze was caused by “careless disposal of smoking material” on the back porch, officials said.
The fire began in the rear of the Raymond Street building, according to the department. Firefighters responded around 1:45 a.m. to find the blaze burning on the back porches of the two-and-a-half story wood frame home.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames about an hour after arriving on the scene, officials said. While battling the blaze, firefighters were forced to briefly evacuate the building after receiving reports of live ammunition going off, according to the department.
The fire displaced, but did not injure, three adults and one teenager between the two apartments, all of whom will stay with family and friends. The fire chief estimates the blaze caused around $600,000 in damages.
