A new CBS Evening News series is following the recovery of a Boston-area heroin addict

The day before Jason Amaral checked into rehab for his heroin addiction, he was snorting crushed up Klonopin pills, which he bought with money he borrowed from his aunt, in a basement bathroom in Boston’s City Hall.
Amaral, 30, has been an addict since college and has overdosed eight times in his life. The Needham native let CBS Evening News cameras follow him in a new multi-part addiction series, “In the Shadow of Death: Jason’s Journey.” The series, anchored by Scott Pelley, shows Amaral struggling with his addiction and his path to recovery, according to CBS Evening News.
