Elementary school student finds a hypodermic needle on a Boston school bus

A Boston elementary school student discovered a hypodermic needle on a school bus Thursday morning, according to school officials.

A student from Winthrop Elementary School reported finding the needle and possibly being pricked by it, according to the school district. The driver of the bus pulled over and reported the incident to EMS at 8:30 a.m. School officials say the student’s parents were notified and the student was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

“Bus drivers will continue to sweep all buses on a daily basis, including today, and will perform additional checks on ‘half-size buses,’ the type of bus in which this incident occurred,” said Boston Public Schools in a statement. “The safety of students and staff is a top priority for Boston Public Schools.”
