Police are investigating a fatal crash in New Bedford
State police are investigating an early Thursday morning crash in New Bedford involving a dump truck and box truck that left one driver dead.
The preliminary investigation indicated the dump truck was struck from behind by the box truck around 4:30 a.m., while both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Route 195, police said in a statement Friday.
The driver of the box truck, Luis Cabral, a 40-year-old man from New Bedford, was trapped inside his vehicle after the crash, according to police. A state police trooper and then New Bedford EMS workers performed first aid on him until the New Bedford Fire Department was able to extricate him, police said. Cabral was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police said no charges have been filed at this time.
