Ex-NHL star Kevin Stevens facing drug charges
Stevens grew up in Pembroke and played for the Boston Bruins during part of the 1995-96 season.
Former NHL player Kevin Stevens was charged in federal court on Thursday for conspiring to sell oxycodone, reports The Boston Globe.
Stevens, 51, of Pembroke, won the Stanley Cup twice with the Pittsburgh Penguins and also played with the Boston Bruins, the Los Angeles Kings, the New York Rangers, and the Philadelphia Flyers. He entered the NHL Substance Abuse Program for his battle with substance abuse just before retiring in 2002.
Stevens was charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone in the fall of 2015. He has “injuries, pain, and other challenges,” said his attorney John J. Commisso, in a statement to the Globe.
He is being held until a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
