Driver faces charges in fatal crash near Endicott College
The driver in a fatal car crash Saturday morning near Endicott College is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Salem District Court, according to the Essex District Attorney’s office.
Police identified Joseph Castano, 20, as the driver of the vehicle that struck a telephone poll at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday. The passenger, Craig Sampson, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Sampson, 19, was a sophomore at Endicott College.
Castano, of Williston, Vermont, is expected to be charged with motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence of liquor and by negligent operation, according to the D.A.’s office. Authorities said Castano will also be charged with minor in possession of alcohol.
