Authorities: Knife-wielding man fatally shot by Everett officer
The man who was shot by a police officer Thursday afternoon in Everett has died, according to a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Everett police responded to a call of a man harassing pedestrians at Broadway and Chelsea Street around 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, a responding officer was approached by a man who drew a knife, according to authorities.
The man allegedly ignored multiple commands to drop the weapon and advanced on the officer, who then shot him, authorities said. The man was transported to Mass. General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The officer was not injured during the incident and has been placed on administrative leave per standard department policy, according to authorities.
This shooting is being investigated by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office and Everett police.
