Worcester man charged in connection to library bomb threat
A 19-year-old Worcester man was arrested Tuesday after police responded to Worcester’s main public library for a report of a bomb threat.
Police said when officers arrived at the library at 3 Salem Square around 2 p.m. a large group of people was leaving the building.
Library staff informed police the suspect, later identified as Roberto Lopez, told a woman while inside the building that he had a bomb inside his backpack. Once library staff were told, Lopez was escorted outside the library until police arrived, according to police.
Lopez told police the backpack belonged to him and that it contained stereo parts, not a bomb. When officers opened the backpack, they found stereo speakers, cell phones, wires, and an amplifier,.
Lopez has been charged with possession of a hoax device, threats causing evacuation or disruption, and making bomb threats.
