Wake, funeral scheduled for Florida sheriff’s deputy
FALMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A Florida sheriff’s deputy killed in an on-duty traffic crash is being honored in his Massachusetts hometown.
A wake for Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy John Robert Kotfila Jr. is scheduled for Tuesday at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Falmouth.
The funeral Mass with full ceremonial honors is scheduled for Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Church in Falmouth.
Authorities say Kotfila Jr. had just left a hospital where he was investigating a traffic crash on March 12 when his vehicle was hit head-on by a wrong-way driver in Brandon, Florida, near Tampa. The other driver also died.
Kotfila came from a law enforcement family. His father is a Massachusetts State Police sergeant and a brother is a Falmouth police officer. His grandfather was also a state trooper.
