Gov. Charlie Baker wants to remake the Massachusetts Republican Party in his own image as a moderate conservative. And he’s using big money from secret donors in an attempt to do so, The Boston Globe reports.

Over the past month, Baker has sent out mailers to voters highlighting his endorsements for moderate candidates running for leadership positions on the 80-member GOP state committee. The plan is to push out the conservative wing of the Mass. GOP when Republican voters choose their state committee on March 1, the Globe reports.

In order to afford those mailers, Baker has raised more than $300,000 from wealthy donors, two people familiar with the fund told The Boston Globe.

But the source of that funding is not publicly available because funding for state committee office is not regulated by campaign finance law, experts told the Globe.
