Driver of SUV uninjured after collision with Amtrak Downeaster

A collision between an Amtrak Downeaster train and an SUV Sunday morning in Andover destroyed part of the vehicle, but left its driver unharmed.

The crash occurred at 7:56 a.m. on the tracks near Essex Street, an Andover police spokeswoman told Boston.com. No one was injured, she said.

The driver, Cora Harder, told CBS Boston that she was driving over the tracks when the gates closed, trapping her inside. Before she had time to react, the train hit the front of her SUV, tearing off the hood.

“The train was coming so fast, it would have been in my visual range just one second before I could have done anything,’’ she told CBS.
