WHDH Channel 7 is launching a half-hour 7 p.m. newscast, according to a statement from the station.

The newscast is expected to launch on March 7 with co-anchors Kim Khazei and Adam Williams, meteorologist Jeremy Reiner, and sports reporter Joe Amorosino.

“Adding a 7PM newscast only reaffirms our commitment to news and the people of New England,’’ Paul Magnes, vice-president and general manager of WHDH-TV, said in the statement. “We will continue to be innovative and invest in the future of 7 News and this community.’’

The move comes only a month after WCVB Channel 5 launched its own 7 p.m. newscast with recently hired former Fox 25 anchor Maria Stephanos.

WHDH’s announcement had no mention of the station’s turmoil with NBC.

NBC said in January that it will drop its affiliation with WHDH and launch a new network-owned station in Boston in January 2017.
