Subzero weather left 14,000 without power across Mass.
It was one of the coldest Valentine’s Days in Boston’s history.
Bitter cold temperatures left at least 14,000 people without power across Massachusetts early Sunday morning on the coldest Valentine’s Day since 1957.
With a low of negative 9 degrees early Sunday and wind chills between negative 30 and 40 degrees, about 12,000 customers in Lynn were without power for several hours when two transformers went down due to low oil, according to a National Grid spokeswoman.
National Grid also saw significant outages in Palmer in western Massachusetts when a line went down, leaving 2,000 residents without power.
Electricity had been restored to all affected customers by noon.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency offered shelter to those without power early Sunday morning.
