Maura Healey threw on her old basketball jersey at a rally for Hillary Clinton

“It still fits!’’ she said.

The metaphorical ball that is the New Hampshire primary election was in Maura Healey’s court. So as she did in her earlier days, she suited up for crunch time.

In the high school gym where she once starred as a playmaking point guard, the Massachusetts attorney general endorsed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton at a rally Hampton, New Hampshire on Tuesday night.

And for good measure, she threw on her old basketball jersey to remind rally-goers of the good times.

“It is surreal,’’ Healey said before the rally, according to MassLive. “I played a lot of games, a lot of practices, a lot of ups and a lot of downs, a lot of sweat. I would never have imagined 35 years ago when I first walked into this gym as a little kid that I’d ever be back in this way, as a Democrat, as a woman, as an elected official, as someone who has an opportunity to welcome to Hampton the next president of the United States.’’

The 5-foot-4 Healey starred at Winnacunnet High School, co-captained Harvard’s women’s basketball team, and went on to play basketball professionally in Austria.

On Tuesday night, Healey returned to a basketball analogy to promote Clinton in her race against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who holds a commanding lead in early New Hampshire polls.

“You play hard and play to the final buzzer and right to the last minute and that’s what this is about,’’ she said, according to the Boston Herald. “We knew this was going to be tight and be competitive, so here we are, let’s play ball.’’
