A 5-five-year old girl was left alone on a private school van for hours on Friday afternoon in Mattapan, The Boston Globereports.

A passerby heard the child, a student at Paige Academy in Roxbury, crying inside the van parked on Hollingsworth Street and called the police, according to the Globe.

Police and the child’s mother, told the Globe the girl was unharmed.

A monitor also rides in the van, according to the Globe.

Fields-Brown contacted the child’s mother, April Sheffield-Boger, to apologize, according to the Globe.

“It seemed like an honest apology, but I also think it’s not acceptable,’’ Sheffield-Boger told the Globe, “I think somebody should have double-checked or at least done a head count.’’

Police are investigating the incident.
