Boston police launched a program to reduce the backlog of routine complaints
The Boston Police Department hopes a new mediation program will reduce a backlog of routine complaints against officers, reports The Boston Globe.
The program, which officials hope will improve the relationship between the police department and the community, will be managed by the Harvard Mediation Program at Harvard Law School, according to the Globe. Police officials hope the program will alleviate less serious complaints in a timely manner so the department can spend more time on high-priority complaints.
“If you bring the police and the complainant together, maybe each can understand where the other was coming from,’’ Police Commissioner William B. Evans told the Globe. “I think it’s a win-win for both the public and the police department.’’
