A parking spot dispute escalated into a shooting in Dorchester Monday afternoon that injured one man, Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans told The Boston Globe.

Police received a report of a shooting in the area of 69 Nightingale St. at 2:38 p.m., a Boston police spokesman told Boston.com. The victim transported to a local hospital and his injuries aren’t considered life threatening, police said.

“Obviously, the individual who did the shooting wasn’t happy that [the victim] was in his spot,’’ Boston Police Commissioner Evans told The Boston Globe at the scene. “There’s way too many guns, and when people are shooting over a parking spot, we’ve got a problem.’’

Evans told the Globe that police are searching for the suspect, a 27-year-old man who is known to them.

“All I know is it’s fortunate that someone didn’t die over a parking dispute,’’ Evans said.
