A NH man was arrested and charged with an alleged sixth OUI

A 52-year-old man was arrested in Groton over the weekend for his alleged sixth offense of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, according to a statement from Groton police.

Police responded to a car accident at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, and found driver Nelson H. Progin III, from Sugar Hill, N.H., suffering from an injury, according to Groton police.

Progin was arrested and charged with operating under the influence (his sixth offense), possession of a Class E drug, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and a marked lanes violation, said police.

“This man has continued to act recklessly without care or concern for himself and the safety of other drivers on the road,’’ said Groton Police Chief Donald Palma Jr. in the statement. “This investigation is open and ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.’’

Progin was arraigned at Ayer District Court on Tuesday. The judge ordered Progin held without bail. A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22. Information about his attorney was not immediately available.
