Several area schools received bomb scares
A number of schools across Massachusetts were investigated for bomb scares on Friday.
It was not immediately clear if the threats were related.
Boston College High received a bomb threat and informed police about it at just after noon, police said. BC High director of communications Jennifer Tegan said the school was locked down as police swept the area and found no perceived threat.
The lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m., she said.
Mashpee, Bourne, Falmouth and Barnstable high schools all received phone calls around the same time Friday with threats. None of the threats were found to be credible, according to police, but many of the schools were searched as a precaution.
Quabbin High School in Barre was placed in a “shelter-in-place’’ this afternoon, Barre Police said, after a report was made of possible threats involving a student. The shelter-in-place was lifted at 1:50 p.m., police said.
Arlington Catholic High School was evacuated by police after a called threat came in around 1:40 p.m., Arlington Police captain Richard Flynn said, according to The Arlington Advocate. The students were moved to St. Agnes Church, according to the Advocate.
Students at two Weymouth middle schools, Maria Weston Chapman and Abigail Adams, also received bomb threats, law enforcement told The Boston Globe. The students were relocated to nearby schools.
Massachusetts State Police searched Chelsea High School on Thursday night after a threat was found written in the high school, WHDH reports. The school system believes the threat was a hoax, WHDH said.
