New Hampshire State Police are looking for the driver of a tractor trailer who took off after smashing into a police cruiser and injuring a trooper.

The accident happened Tuesday evening on Interstate 89 in Warner.

“The truck driver, who was travelling too fast for the conditions, tried to slow and the trailer veered to the right and struck the trooper’s car,’’ according to a police statement.

The trailer knocked the police car 283 feet from the point of impact and the trooper was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The trooper had stopped to assist a driver who had gone off the road. He was sitting inside his car with his emergency lights on when he was struck, according to police. The truck driver pulled over at first, but then fled the scene, said police.
