Effingham Fire Chief Richard Burbank was bringing Engine 1 back to the station Wednesday morning after it was taken in for “minor maintenance.’’
Well, Engine 1 might need a touch bit more “minor maintenance.’’

According to the New Hampshire town’s fire department, around 10:20 a.m., Burbank was about a quarter-mile from the station on Route 153 when the truck slid off the road, rolling over and snapping a telephone pole.
“The most important thing is Chief is OK,’’ Effingham Fire and Rescue posted on Facebook. “He was taken to the hospital and checked out.’’
Officials said that road conditions on Route 153 — which runs along the Maine border east of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region — are suspected to have been a factor following snowfall in the area Tuesday night.
The department added that they will continue to respond with their remaining vehicles, but “will likely need to utilize some mutual aid for certain calls in the short term.’’
