Couple charged in counterfeiting scheme

The couple did not show up for their arraignment in Quincy District Court.

Weymouth police arrested a couple after they say the man bought food at a Weymouth McDonald’s with fake money.

Stanley B. Wood III and girlfriend Katie L. Brewster are facing counterfeit and forgery charges.

Stanley B. Wood III, 35, of Weymouth, paid for his McDonald’s meal on New Year’s Day with a counterfeit $20. The restaurant alerted police, who arrested Wood and discovered more counterfeit bills in his pockets, according to a statement by Weymouth police.

According to police, “Wood allegedly passed other bills days prior.’’

Wood’s live-in girlfriend, 32-year-old Katie L. Brewster, of Weymouth, denied involvement, but then handed counterfeit bills from her pockets to police, the statement said.

When officers searched the couple’s room at the Super 8 Motel, they found “numerous items related to illegal counterfeiting such as cutting instruments, counterfeit prescriptions and sheets of partially forged bills strewn about the room,’’ according to the statement. Also, “a counterfeit prescription for medication ready to print’’ was discovered on a computer.

Police arrested Brewster and charged her with forgery of a document and receiving stolen property. Wood was charged with six counts of uttering a counterfeit note, possession of a counterfeit note, possession of counterfeit equipment, and forgery of a document.

The couple was released on bail and due to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Monday. According to Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s office, the couple did not show up for Monday’s arraignment and police picked them up Monday night. As of Tuesday afternoon, they were being held at Quincy District Court, awaiting arraignment once again.
