After thousands of subscribers did not recieve their papers on time over the past week following the Globe’s switch to a new delivery company, scores of the paper’s editors, reporters, photographers, and other employees volunteered to assist the delivery of Sunday’s edition themselves.

According to the Globe, about 5 percent of the 115,000 daily home-delivery subscribers did not get their paper on a timely basis after the company switched to the new delivery partner, ACI Media Group, on December 28.

So more than 100 newsroom and business-side employees worked in the wee hours of Sunday morning to help ACI Media deliver the Sunday edition, which has 205,000 subscribers.

The Globeapologized to subscribers Wednesday for the disruption in service and added staff to their call center to assist customers. The company says it will offer full refunds to subscribers whose service was affected.

“We apologize for the disruption,’’ Globe chief executive Mike Sheehan said in an interview. “We know that people depend on us every day.’’

The disruption hit during a holiday week and sparked outcry from readers. Sheehan said some disruption in service had been anticipated, but they hoped to minimize the pain of the transition to ACI Media, which also delivers the Los Angeles Times and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“It’s a change we had to make,’’ he said. ’’In the days ahead, we’ll be getting it to the premium level of service that our subscribers expect.’’

Some subscribers expressed gratitude to the reporters and other Globe employees who made the extra effort to make sure Sunday’s paper was delivered on time.
