Armed standoff in Everett ends with man in custody, home in flames
An hours-long standoff with police and SWAT teams in Everett ended with a suspect in custody and the man’s home in flames on Christmas Day, The Boston Globe reports.
Mark Lavoine, 53, was arrested about five hours after police responded to reports of shots fired outside his Everett home, according to the Globe. He had three firearms, police said.
Police called in negotiators, who attempted to contact Lavoine on a loudspeaker and coax him out of the home. An armored vehicle, armed SWAT teams, and a police sharpshooter were also present at the scene, the Globe reports.
Lavoine was taken into custody at about 5:40 p.m., and the house became engulfed in flames shortly after, the Globe reports.
’’[T]his was a serious situation and we are very proud of the job done by the Everett Police Patrol force, North Metro SWAT, Boston SWAT and the Everett Fire Department,’’ Everett Police said in a statement.
