Other MBTA workers have been accused of tampering with throttles

The Boston Globe

An MBTA driver was fired earlier this month after the train he was controlling took off without him, a mishap that was apparently caused by the train’s throttle being tied down. It is not the first time a driver has been disciplined for tampering with the controls, according to The Boston Globe.

In 1999, the T disciplined a driver who was accused of using a telephone receiver to jam the control lever of a Blue Line train, and in 2001, a Red Line driver faced a similar accusation, according to the Globe.

David Vazquez, the driver who was recently fired, is appealing his termination.
