Other MBTA workers have been accused of tampering with throttles
An MBTA driver was fired earlier this month after the train he was controlling took off without him, a mishap that was apparently caused by the train’s throttle being tied down. It is not the first time a driver has been disciplined for tampering with the controls, according to The Boston Globe.
In 1999, the T disciplined a driver who was accused of using a telephone receiver to jam the control lever of a Blue Line train, and in 2001, a Red Line driver faced a similar accusation, according to the Globe.
David Vazquez, the driver who was recently fired, is appealing his termination.
